The cellular "carnage" of "post-freeze 2010" has probably reached its maximum level, and from here on in, you'll pretty much be able to tell what will look good again (by summer's end), what will not look so great for the rest of 2010...and what will need to be replanted.
I know that I'm awash (at tree roots' level) in fallen giant pothos & passion flower vines' leaves, that heretofore were festooned way up to the tops of my live oaks, mahoganies, & coconut palms. Some fallen leaves I'm disposing of, but most are being used as "cheap" organic material which will be well-decomposed by mid-May, I'm sure!
The grounds of my Broward County home look a bit frousy now, but in reality, my landscape never really looks THAT wonderful by mid February, due either to cold fronts, dry weather, or the hot & unyielding winds of late Fall.
Already shrubs and trees that have been denuded by the cold of early January, are replacing bare & ugly, with a coat of the freshest kind of "Spring green!" It's really quite a treat that doesn't often get seen around these environs!
I love Spring and am really enjoying the seasonal changes that are occurring now on a daily basis!
Let the gardening season of 2010 begin in Zone 10B..."full speed ahead!"
